A Joint Statement Regarding the SBC Sexual Abuse Presidential Study Group

J.D. Greear, the president of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), recently announced the formation of an advisory group to study how the SBC might respond to abuse and take preventative measures against it.

For Such a Time as This and Justice for Anne have together composed a joint statement outlining specific issues we believe this study group needs to address in order to help create a safer SBC. Additionally, we have suggested specific persons who are experts in addressing abuse and whom we recommend for inclusion in the study group. You may view the joint statement at the link below.

Thanks to all for your work on this issue. It is greatly needed. In a better Church, each pastor and elder would respond to incidents of abuse with great love, care and courage. While this is the case when people are sick or lose loved ones, the cases involving serious sin and scandal are ignored or suppressed. We cannot let this cancer claim so many lives in the Church. Your work may become a basis for healing this long festering disease.
